Catalogue Note

As the son of the marine painter Adam Willaerts (1577-1664) and the brother of Abraham Willaerts (1603-1669), also painter of seascapes, it is not surprising that Isaac took up the same profession and became a member of the Utrecht painters-guild in 1637.

This is an early work, strongly influenced by Isaac's father Adam, with whom his work has often been confused.
