Catalogue Note

The figure of St. Catherine has found its inspiration in works of Sir Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640), such as the painting representing St. Domitilla, St. Nereus and St. Achilleus in the Church of Santa Maria in Vallicella, Rome. (See M. Jaffé, Rubens, Rizolli 1989, p. 163, cat. no. 82C, reproduced).
