Catalogue Note

We are grateful to Ludwig Meyer for pointing out that both paintings are close in style to that of a small work, representing the Mystic Marriage of St. Catherine, present whereabouts unknown, but last exhibited Vienna, Europäische Kunst um 1400, in 1962, then attributed to the Master of the Heiligenkreuz (active 1395-1420). Meyer considers all three paintings to be close in style to the Master of the Wiener Darbringung (active first half 15th Century), to whom the present paintings were traditionally attributed.
