Catalogue Note
The execution and style of the trees, sky area and figures in this composition can be compared to that of a work attributed to Jan van den Hecke, sold New York, Sotheby's, 3 October 1996, lot 166. This has also been confirmed by Marijke C. de Kinkelder.
On the basis of digital photographs Jan de Maere has suggested an attribution to Philips Augustijn Immenraet (1627-1679) for the landscape and Hieronymus Janssens (1624-1693) for the figures. He compares the present work to an unsigned painting by Van Immenraet in the Oldenburg Landesmuseum.
