Lithograph, 1896, Woll's fourth state (of five), signed in pencil and inscribed An Frau Foster Nietzche, printed by Clot, on greyish white China paper, with margins, in good condition apart from a few soft creases in the lower sheet, a tear at the lower sheet edge, paper losses at the sheet corners, the sheet edges discolored

Catalogue Note

This lithograph was a gift to Elisabeth Föster-Nietzsche who was the sister of Friedrich Nietsche, the German philospher. In 1904 Munch made a drawing of her and in 1906 he painted a large portrait of her which are now both in the Munch Museum in Oslo.
