Sale, London, Sotheby's, 3 July 1980, lot 63; purchased at that sale by John and Alice Steiner
This drawing came from the large group of Volterrano drawings sold at Sotheby's, London in 1980, catalogued by Charles McCorquodale. The recto may be a study for a St. Catherine. The figure of the old man and a baby on the verso could be related to a Simeon with the Infant Christ mentioned by Baldinucci (V, 1847, p. 175). The drawing is a fairly late work.
