Catalogue Note
This full length portrait of a general of the Venetian republic probably relates to a publication of Uomini illustri. The paper of the present drawing has a watermark with an anchor in a circle surmounted by a six-pointed star and was made in the Veneto, most probably around Venice, circa 1560-80. The type of armor is characteristic of the North of Italy and the Veneto, and would seem to date from the late fifteenth or early sixteenth century.
