Catalogue Note
As Dr. Hans-Ulrich Beck has kindly informed us, this drawing is listed in the inventories of Röver's collection, but without any attribution. It did not appear in the sales from the Röver and Goll van Franckenstein collections, in 1761 and 1833 respectively. On grounds of comparison with facial types in his paintings, an attribution to the Flemish artist Marten Pepyn has been suggested.
