Catalogue Note
No artist by the name of D. Hartmann is recorded as having been active at the beginning of the 17th century. These drawings are, however, very similar in style to a study of a dog, formerly in the Meissner Collection, which is signed with initials I: W., and was attributed by Werner Schade to Jakob Walther (circa 1570-1604) (sold, New York, Sotheby's, 13 January 1988, lot 102).
