  • bears old attribution, lower right: L. Boilly/1790 (?);
    black chalk and gray wash, with touches of red and white chalk; circular, made up on both sides

Catalogue Note

Neil Jeffares dates this portrait to 1796 (see Literature).  A similar portrait by Lemoine, signed and dated 1796, was sold Monaco, Sotheby's, 2 December 1989, lot 219, and another, a portrait of 'La Citoyenne Crétu', was exhibited at the Salon of 1796, and was subsequently in the Marius Paulme Collection (sold, Paris, Petit, 14 May 1929, lot 136, reproduced).
