Catalogue Note
According to various authors, the storming of Damiate by the crusaders in 1218 was led by a Dutch ship; the subject was therefore frequently represented in Dutch art and literature, and considered a source of national pride. Sold together with the lithograph after the drawing, made by Schotel himself.
