Said to have belonged to a member of the Constable-Maxwell Family.
The present painting is in the style of Constable's early works of the late 1790s. The weave of the canvas of the present painting is similar to that used by Constable in his early view of Hadleigh Church, (see G. Reynolds, The Early Paintings and Drawings of John Constable, Yale 1996, no. 96.1, pl. 18).
