Catalogue Note
The loss of the dining room table in the fire was particularly painful for the Krosnicks. As Evelyn recalled, "All I could think of was the dining room table. In my mind I saw the table on fire, and it was screaming, 'Don't let this happen to me.'" (John Cunningham, Mid-Atlantic Country, March 1996, p. 40).
In reconstructing the table, Nakashima was able to find a pair of book-matched planks that were more perfectly matched than the original ones which had fissures of uneven sizes (see p. 12 for the original dining table). He gave this piece such loving care that he felt it was even better than the original.
