Catalogue Note

This translation contains Jan Maatsukyer's accounts of an embassy sent from Batavia (not present in all copies) and Athanasius Kircher's essay on China, together with costume plates after the latter. It is possible that the illustrations of the environment and natural history of China, Tartary and Tibet provided the reader with his first views of the Orient.
