Catalogue Note
The Naturalist's Calendar has contemporary marginalia (one entry referring to a recent incident as occurring on 16 July 1795), the writer embellishing Gilbert White's accounts with personal reminiscences such as "Nr Scarboro' in the Cliff near the Spa I heard a remarkable twittering of Sand Martins in looking up I observ'd a considerable number of them flying over the head of a stoat who enter'd their holes and brought out their young which he carried probably to his own dwelling - he quickly return'd to the next hole and repeated often the same performance till I procur'd a Gun and shot him".
