Catalogue Note

This sheet bears three of the very small number of maps published in the sixteenth century based on Spanish manuscript sources, each a particularly significant delineation of its region. The one devoted to 'Florida', is the earliest printed map devoted to the American southeast, which Cumming described as “one of the half-dozen most important mother maps of southeastern North America” (p.12).
