Catalogue Note

from the library of queen alexandra (1844-1925), who was born in Copenhagen on 1 December 1844, the eldest daughter of the future King Christian IX of Denmark, and Louise, third daughter of Landgrave Wilhelm of Hesse-Cassel and Princess Charlotte of Denmark. In 1863 her father ascended the throne, only months she married at St. George's Chapel, Windsor, Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, who became King Edward VII in 1901.

The fine plates depict views in Denmark proper (25 of 27), Jutland (19 of 20), Slesvig (15), Holsteen (24), Lauenborg (6), the Faroes (1), Greenland (3), Iceland (5), and the Virgin Islands (formerly the Danish West Indies) (6).
