Catalogue Note

a handsome set of volumes I-II of the best edition (with the engravings in the best and final state) of the Liber Veritatis, described by Abbey as a "capital work, a landmark in the history of reproduction of master drawings."

The imprint in these two volumes varies slightly from Abbey, for example they are dated (1777), whereas Abbey's copy is not, and in only having 12 numbered pages of text in volume 1 (apparently complete, but Abbey calls for 14). It is possible that there are different issues and/or that Abbey is in error. These volumes agree with the first two volumes of the set sold in these rooms from the Fermor-Hesketh library at Easton Neston (15 December 1999, lot 364).
