Catalogue Note

Autograph material by Arne, the composer of "Rule Britannia", is rare. There are two copies of this issue of Smith's edition of Comus in the British Library, both with Arne's signature on the title page.  Two other unsigned issues also exist with different addresses on the imprint. Comus was staged at Drury Lane in 1738 and was Arne's first important success.
