Catalogue Note
The Mellish formed part of the East India Company's fleet of ships. Its name is likely to have originated from William Mellish, a ship builder, who made a donation to the construction of the East India dock in London. In the National Maritime Museum records The Mellish is reported to have been a passenger ship that ran from England to Australia and New Zealand. It is also reported to have entered Sydney harbour on 18th April 1929 carrying British convicts.
