Catalogue Note
The International Exposition of 1939 in New York provided Mauboussin with a forum in which to exhibit their most opulent designs. This tasseled brooch, like the cascade brooch illustrated as the frontispiece of Mauboussin, by Marguerite de Cerval, embodies the trend towards movement and volume in jewelry design, where platinum was no longer just the metal in which the stones were set, but also an ornamental element making the setting all important.
