This drawing will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné of Pissarro's works on paper currently being prepared by Joachim Pissarro and Christopher Lloyd.

Camille Pissarro was born on the Caribbean island of St. Thomas in 1830 and is best known for his contributions to French Impressionism. This drawing dates from Pissarro's years spent in Venezuela, traveling with his mentor the Danish artist Fritz Melbye. The clear and precise style of drawing the leaves, branches and trunk of the tree are typical of his work of this period.
