the lid with a centre monogram plaque within a field decorated with polychrome enamel stylised scrolling flowers and foliage to vari-coloured grounds, the slanting border set with gemstones, the sides of the case similarly decorated with coloured enamels and gemstones, the base rim with repeating flower head design on bracket feet, the underside of the lid bears the inscription in French 'Souvenie de sympathis et de reconnaissance de la Colonie beige de Moscou a Monsieur JEAN NAZE, Consul de Belgique, ayant fait function de consul-general de Mars 1814 a Septembre 1816 Moscou, le 16/29 1816'
