Maqbool Fida Husain (b. 1915)

In the late 1950's Husain worked on a series of works that drew inspiration from the charms of rural Indian life, specifically the rituals associated with a traditional Hindu wedding.  Here he has created a fantasy celebration using his familiar palette of bright vibrant colors. The work seems to draw upon tribal and folk traditions but at the same time the painting is reminiscent of the bright toys that Husain had himself designed a few years earlier.
