Catalogue Note
The sculpture was most likely part of a frieze ornamenting the outer wall of a temple. Compare the dynamic composition with a narrative relief depicting a pair of wrestlers on the south wall of the Lakshmana temple in Khajuraho, see Sivaramamurti, 1977, pl. 405.
