Catalogue Note
Like his friend Pissarro, Cézanne's early landscapes were indebted to the Barbizon school, and in particular to the work of Corot. Their principal vocabulary was the use of broad blocks of generally dark tones to describe the landscape of his native Provence. In the present work, Cézanne records the entrance to a typical Provençal farm, displaying an early affection for the countryside of his region.
