Catalogue Note
From an early age Monet's reputation as a caricaturist spread through Le Havre and he earned pocket money from commissions to portray personalities from the town. The following three lots were executed in 1858 and are based on portraits of political figures that had been published in the Parisian newspapers.
The present work is a portrait of the journalist and one of the founding fathers of the Gazette de Paris.
