Catalogue Note

From the set of 36 Bustes des Parliamentaires.  These busts were modelled by Daumier in terracotta.  In 1927, Maurice Le Garrec acquired them and commissioned plaster molds to be made from each of them; from these molds, bronze editions were cast by the Barbedienne Foundry, some in numbered editions of 25, the rest in numbered editions of 30, between 1929-1948.
After Le Garrec's death his widow inherited the casts; after the Barbedienne Foundry closed in 1953 and returned them to her, she gave them to the Valsuani Foundry and ordered from them three complete sets: one for herself and one for each of her two daughters.  These were further incised LG or C for the daughters, and Mme H for Mme. Le Garrec.  The present bronze is from this last casting edition.
