Catalogue Note

Fritz Beckert was a student of Gotthardt Kuehl who founded the Dresdener Secession, a group of early German Impressionists, in 1892.  A member from 1909-1919, Beckert conveys a more intimate and personal viewpoint in The Luncheon Table than in the views of Dresden for which he is better known.  His studio and its contents were destroyed in the bombing of Dresden in 1945.
