Etienne Moreau-Nélaton, 1859-1927

The present work was painted in the summer of 1898 when Moreau-Nélaton went to Normandy to work on a series of canvases showing the cliffs at Étretat, in conscious emulaton of Monet's series of paintings. This work may be one of the four exhibited at Bernheim-Jeune in 1899.
