nickel lever movement, Rolex Superbalance, silvered dial, applied arabic, triangular and square numerals, apertures for day and month, subsidiary seconds combined with aperture for moon-phases, outer track for date in blue, circular case with polished chamfered bezel, down turned polished lugs, case, dial and movement signed, together with stainless steel Rolex buckle.

Provenance:

This wristwatch was purchased new in the 1950s by the grandfather of the present owner.

Reference 8171

Only two Rolex models have been manufactured with moon-phases: reference 8171 with a snap on back and 6062 with an Oyster case. It is believed that reference 8171 was produced in small numbers in the late 1940s and early 1950s. As the production period was so short, examples are scarce.

Although the dial of the present wristwatch has been re-finished, it is notable for the outstanding condition of case and movement.
