Catalogue Note

The accompanying Extract from the Patek Philippe Archives confirms that this watch was manufactured in 1892 and sold on January 11th, 1895. The present watch is notable, not only for its extreme rarity, but also for retaining its original wooden fitted case, Certificate of Origin and spare springs.

Pocket watches with simple calendar by Patek Philippe are extremely rare. Listed below are the other examples known, however, NONE of these are in silver.

* Only three watches are known to have survived with simple calendar and no other complication, these date from 1871-1873.

* Only one other watch is known with quarter repetition and simple calendar.

* Only three watches are known with minute repetition (two with moon-phases and one similar to the present watch's dial).

* One further watch is known with simple calendar and a two-train movement but this is key wound.

As a consequence, it can be said that this is the only watch currently known in silver with this complication combination.
