18k, damascened nickel lever movement (cal.240 Q), stamped with the seal of Geneva, 27 jewels, free-sprung gyromax balance, adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions, 22k gold mini-rotor, silvered dial, applied faceted baton numerals, three subsidiary dials for day with 24-hour indication, month with leap year indication and date combined with aperture for moon-phases, circular case with scooped bezel, solid snap-on case back, case, dial and movement signed, with an 18k gold Patek buckle, accompanied by an Extract from the Archives.

The accompanying Extract from the Patek Philippe Archives confirms that this wristwatch was manufactured in 1991 and sold on December 20th the same year.
Reference 3940 was introduced by Patek Philippe in 1985 and production officially ceased in March 2006. As the successor to references 3448 and 3450, it was manufactured in three series over a 20 year production period. The present lot belongs to series two.
