Description
Thanks to his unexpected success on Dancing with the Stars, some people may only think of Jerry Rice for his moves on the ballroom floor. However, football fans will always remember where Rice truly excelled – in the end zone, catching passes from other Hall of Famers named Montana and Young. His success in both sports can be traced to the same reason – his immense dedication to preparation and conditioning that served him for twenty years in the NFL, making him the greatest wide receiver in the league’s history.
The San Francisco 49ers recognized Rice’s talents early as he was putting small Mississippi Valley State on the college football map. Rice amassed 4,693 yards receiving in four seasons and finished with 18 Division I-AA records. The 49ers paid attention, traded up and took Rice with the 16th selection in the 1985 draft.
For the next sixteen years the 49ers were rewarded with three Super Bowl victories and the most prolific pass receiver in pro football history. When he retired in September 2005 after 20 seasons (his last four with the Oakland Raiders), Rice held 38 NFL records, including touchdowns (208), receptions (1,549), receiving yards (22,895), consecutive games with a catch (274) and yards from scrimmage (23,540). A Super Bowl MVP, he was invited to the Pro Bowl 13 times.
This San Francisco 49ers home jersey was worn by Rice in his prime, the early 1990’s. On the front, back and on each sleeve of the mesh jersey is “Rice” screen printed in red on a white name plate. There are no manufacturer’s tags on the jersey. The jersey shows game use with slight dirt stains on the upper right back. There appears to be no alterations of any kind. LOA from MEARS.
