Larry Bird’s 1982 All-Star Game Worn Jersey, Bird Named All-Star Game MVP

bidding is closed

Description

In just his third year in the NBA, Larry Bird had already won his first championship with the Boston Celtics, played in two All-Star Games and established himself as the one player in the league who could take over a game with his shooting, passing and remarkable court instincts.

In the 1982 NBA All-Star Game, hosted by the New Jersey Nets at the Meadowlands, Bird demonstrated the best of his amazing skills. Wearing this jersey, against a West team boasting his Laker counterpart, Magic Johnson, as well as Moses Malone, George Gervin and Norm Nixon, Bird led a fourth quarter surge. He ran the pick and roll to perfection with Celtic teammate and close friend Robert Parrish, who scored 21 points. Bird himself scored 12 of the last 15 points, and the East won for the third consecutive year by a score of 120-118. Bird finished with 19 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists in 28 minutes, and was voted the game’s MVP.

Bird would be selected for nine more All-Star games, would win two more NBA championships, be named to the 1992 Olympic “Dream” team and win three consecutive league MVP awards from 1984-1986. This was the only game in which he won the All-Star MVP award, against all of his peers in their primes.

Bird’s mesh jersey has tagging reading “medalist” and “Sand-Knit”, size 44 and another tag reading 2” L.B. LOA from MEARS (Graded A-10).
