bidding is closed

Description

There are only four playmaking guards to have played for five championship teams: Bob Cousy, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and the smallest and least heralded, Slater “Dugie” Martin. Only 5’ 10”, Martin led his Jefferson Davis High School to consecutive state championships.

Joining the Minneapolis Lakers in 1949 after an All-American career at the University of Texas (interrupted by a stint in the Navy in World War II), Martin teamed with fellow future Hall of Famers George Mikan and Jim Pollard  to bring NBA titles to the Minneapolis Lakers in 1950 and1952-1954.

In 1956, traded to the St. Louis Hawks, "Dugie" joined another group of Hall of Famers, Bob Pettit, Ed Macauley and Cliff Hagan. In 1958, he averaged 12 points a game for the Hawks, helping them to defeat the Celtics in the NBA finals and winning his fifth NBA championship. In 1960, Martin retired after 11 seasons and was elected to the NBA Hall of Fame in 1982.

This game worn home jersey dates from the years Martin played for the St. Louis Hawks, the 1957-1960 seasons. On the inside back tail is the “Rawlings” label with the size “42.”  Adjacent to this is the wash tag.  It shows game-used and appears to have no alterations of any kind. LOA from MEARS (Graded A-10).
