Catalogue Note
Born in Lodi, Callisto received his first artistic training under his father Martino. Around 1524 Callisto is recorded as working in Brescia and possiby in the workshop of Gerolamo Romanino. While in that city he produced numerous works including a series for the churches in the Valcamonica: a Deposition, a Virgin Enthroned with Saints, and a frescoed lunette of Virgin Enthroned with Saints. By 1529 Callisto was back in Lodi and remained rooted in that city for the remainder of his life.
