- 90cm. high, 69cm. wide; 2ft. 11½in., 2ft. 3in.
with a central laurel leaf roundel depicting the Pope's attributes and the four evangelists within clouds, surrounded by stylised scrolls, laurel and acanthus leaves and central palmette reserves, the whole within a further stylised Greek key border
Catalogue Note
Spadoni’s design is based upon a famous painting from the end of Raphael’s artistic reign, dated 1518, with the winged calf, and lion, the eagle and cherubs, all mirroring the Raphael’s Vision of Ezekiel, now in the Pitti Palace collection in Florence.
