Catalogue Note

Philippe-Joseph Pluvinet, received Master 1754

Pluvinet made chairs in both rococo and neo-classical design, thus mastering both styles in a very confident way. Based in the Rue de Cléry, his output ranged from the most restrained seat furniture to the most elaborate and luxurious pieces.

The stamps on the white painted chair suggest that it was in the royal collections at palace of Fontainebleau under the Restauration represented by the royal seal and abbreviated FON. The other stamps are inventory marks printed during the 19th century. The mark beginning with the letter T would suggest that it had been moved to the Tuileries palace in the late 19th century and was probably sold in the vente des domaines in the 1880s.
