Catalogue Note
Comparative Literature:
Guillaume Janneau, Le Mobilier-Les Sièges, Paris, 1993, p. 303, for a similar mahogany lyre backed chair by Georges Jacob (1739-1814), received Master 1765.
It is not possible to attributed these chairs to a particular maker but the design of the present lot with their lyre shaped splats terminating in rosettes is similar to those on various versions of these chairs by Jacob illustrated by Pierre Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Français du XVllle Siècle, Paris, 1998, p. 425. One should not, however, discount other makers who made similar chairs such as, Séné and Chevigny.
