Description

  • 51cm. high, 36cm. wide; 1ft. 8in., 1ft. 2¼in.
the white enamel dial with Roman numerals contained within a drum-shaped case, with a gilt-bronze putti holding a wreath, flanked by two dragons with porcelain flowerheads and gilt-bronze stem and leaves, above and surrounding a Meissen pair of lovers exchanging snuff on a gilt-bronze stepped base

Condition

Colour of gilding far less orange more golden and attractive than in the catalogue photograph. The gilt-bronze is a little dirty and would benefit from a light clean according to taste. There are some scratches on the dial at 12 o'clock and 8 o'clock. One small flower is off and part of another but present and can be reattached. There is very nice detail to casting, with some casting cracks and flaws. There are very minor chips to some of the petals on the flowers and a very small blue and white flower on the side has been restored. The upper body of the seated female figure shows a restored break running across her forehead to her waist, which has not been well executed and may need further restoration. There is a chip to the bottom of the bow on her sleeve and one of the flowers at the base of her skirt. Her apron looks repainted. Minor chips to breeches of seated male figure. There are some very minor sections of gilt-bronze leaves which are chipped off but these do not detract from the piece as they are hardly noticeable. A rear scroll at the back of the base has been restored and there is evidence of filled screwholes at the back of rear right foot. Movement in original condition. In need of clean. An attractive model in overall good condition. Measurements: 53cm. high, approx. 34cm. wide.
