height 4 1/2 in. (11.4cm)

of bulbous form with a ribbed neck and loop handle, partially covered in a powdered green glaze over a thin cream slip. Some restoration to rim.

Catalogue Note

'Borderware' is the name given to ware from an area on the Hampshire - Surrey border, in production from at least the 16th century. The wares appear to have been exported to the early American colonies. Fragments of borderware have been recovered from the Allerton-Cushman site (1632-1699) at Plymouth, Massachusetts, the findings published by the Plymouth Archeological Rediscovery Project at http://plymoutharch.tripod.com/id83.
