- 94.cm. high, 166cm. wide, 68.5cm.deep; 3ft. 1in., 5ft 5½in., 2ft.3in.
with a central drawer flanked by a deep drawer on each side, one fitted with division for bottles
Catalogue Note
This sideboard closely relates to a design for a "Side Board Table for Mr Stuart Johnson" in Gillows' Estimate Sketch Books dated 25 November 1786, folio 456, reel 344/93 (see illustration). The leaf-carved capitals on the legs can be found in a Gillows design for a card table dated February 1799 (folio 499, reel 344/93).
A sideboard very similar to the current lot was sold in these Rooms, 9th July 1999, lot 103. A square-legged example is illustrated in, Ralph Edwards, The Dictionary of English Furniture (revised edition, 1983, vol. 3, p.134).
