the detachable pagoda-shaped top with a pine-cone finial above a lambrequin collar, the tapered brass-bound wine cooler of coopered form with a lead-lined interior, the pedestal with a gadrooned top above a cross-banded door and pull-out base with integral plinth

Catalogue Note

A similar wine-cistern but without a lid is illustrated in Gillows` Estimate Sketch Book for 1767 ( L.Boynton, ed., Gillow Furniture Designs, Royston, 1995, no. 176) .

A further closely related example , exhibited by Norman Adams at the Grosvenor House Antique Fair in 1976 is illustrated Country Life, 15 June 1967, p.1522.
