Catalogue Note

‘As he moved around the countryside of New South Wales – Oberon, Marulan, Carcoar, Bathurst – and to the Glasshouse Mountains in Queensland, where he often stayed with his friends Lawrence and Edit Daws, he painted and drew the landscape in all its seasons with a tendency he called “Chinese”. It was not so much the style of the works which gave him this idea as the repetition of certain motifs in nature that might symbolize states of mind’.1
