Catalogue Note

After Rees moved from Brisbane to Sydney, he lived in 1918-9 and from later in 1919 until 1922 in a cottage at Waverton. As he told Richard Coleman in an interview, ‘There used to be little explosions from the gas works and that made the rent very cheap. The little cottage my sister and I had looked out right across the Harbour to Balmain and the headland’.1  The viewpoint in Cottage by Sydney Harbour seems to be slightly to the right, looking towards Balmain and featuring the western edge of Long Nose Point.

A card from Lloyd Rees to Joan Priest is to be sold with this lot.
