Catalogue Note

A marble-top pier table similar to this one and possibly from the same shop sold in these rooms, The Collection of Alice and Murray Braunfeld, January 17, 2004, sale 7961, lot 1267. Though made with carved knees and claw-and-ball feet, that table displays the same graduated moldings, a similar cyma-shaped skirt, and a marble top apparently from the same quarry that displays identical color, figuring and rounded corners.

The current marble top on this pier table was once broken and while it was obviously repaired at some later date, nail holes on the top of the rails may indicate the table was mounted with a wooden board for a period of time.
