Catalogue Note
The Law Code of Gortyna, dating from the early 5th century B.C., may have influenced the legislators in Greece. It emphasized familial ties and addressed issues of inheritance, with particular attention to the rights of women to own and maintain their own property. Interestingly, the document made no mention of criminal procedures.
