Catalogue Note

Please see Paydar, N.I. & Grammet, I. ed., The Fabric of Moroccan Life, Indianapolis Museum of Art, 2002, pp.272-273, for henna dyed scarves with a simple 'horizon line', by the Ait Abdallah people.  Korolnik-Andersch, Annette, Henna Painting on Textiles, pp.267-273 in Paydar, op.cit., refers on p.269 to 'a type of scarf with U-shaped henna painting.....only recently come to light'; this headscarf is an outstanding example for the incorporation of a stylised cityscape with the U-shaped indents along the horizon line.
