- 66 by 66 cm. single tile 22 by 22 cm. (26 by 26 in. single tile 8 5/8 by 8 5/8 in.)
in typical underglaze cobalt blue, apple green and turquoise against a white ground with a triple arcade of spiral columns, a central vase of flowers and hanging lamps, inscribed with the names of the rightly guided caliphs, the Prophet and Allah
Catalogue Note
Similar tile panels are on the walls of the shrine of Ibn al-Arabi in the Salahiyah district of Damascus, restored in the eighteenth century. Another tile panel is in the Victoria and Albert Museum (acc.no.1215-1883), and a related panel in the same museum (acc.no.258-1891) is dated A.H. 1102/A.D. 1691.
